方水泉(棒球紳士 1930~2000)
方水泉是台灣光復後早期的國手,參加過第1、2屆亞錦賽,也擔任過中華隊總教練。1969年金龍少棒隊奪得世界冠軍,開啟三級棒球的輝煌年代。他奉命借調到華興中學,開啟台灣棒球史上「北華興、南美和」南北對抗的佳話。30年間不僅帶領華興青少棒、青棒奪得數次世界冠軍,更培育無數的英才,讓華興棒球隊開枝散葉。而這些子弟兵不僅對棒球界貢獻卓著,即使在各行各業也能嶄露頭角。也因此,在球場上方水泉是一位名教練,日常生活方面,他更是一位好老師。
Fang Shui-chuan (1930~2000)
Baseball Gentleman
Fang Shui-chuan was a member of Taiwan’s national baseball team at the early stage of Taiwan Retrocession who had represented the nation at the debut and second edition of Asian Baseball Championship before being promoted to be the manager of the team.
He was asked to coach the Huaxing High School baseball team in 1969, a year that saw the Taichung Golden Dragon baseball team won the Little League World Series championship at Williamsport.
Under his command, the Taipei City-based Huaxing became a baseball powerhouse in Northern Taiwan and a tough competitor with southern Pingtung County-based Meiho High School. For decades, “North Huaxing and South Meiho” was one of the top baseball rivalries in Taiwan.
In his 30 years at the helm of Huaxing, Fang led the school’s senior league and big league teams to clinching several world championship titles. His decades-long efforts also helped to cultivate thousands of talents around the country who shine not only in baseball world.
Fang was not only a good baseball coach but a mentor to many.
廖敏雄(學生棒運推手 1941~)
廖敏雄事業有成後即長期耕耘基層棒球,從早期的少棒聯盟經中小學聯賽籌委會到學生棒球聯盟,為三級棒球發展投入時間長達26年,數十年如一日,堪稱台灣學生棒運發展最重要的推手。台灣自1969年起,因參加LLB世界少棒聯盟的比賽勇奪冠軍而帶動棒球風氣,後來的發展卻逐漸面臨瓶頸。廖敏雄在棒運走到十字路口時挺身而出,適時將不良風氣加以導正,又排除各方阻力,訂定合理的規則,不僅重振基層棒球,也為成棒、職棒打下厚實基礎。
Yen Hsiao-chang (1941~)
Student Baseball Pushing Hand
Originally a successful businessman, Liao Ming-Hsiung has been contributing his efforts in boosting the development of grassroots baseball in Taiwan for more than 26 years.
He has made major contributions by forming local little league baseball and establishing elementary, junior high and senior high level leagues and thus is known as the most important driving force and pushing hand behind the nation’s student baseball.
Taiwan’s little league baseball had gained international fame since 1969 with its one after another championship titles in Little League Baseball World Series.
Student baseball’s development had seen downfall in later years as young baseballers played with national honor at stake and the sport was not fun anymore.
That was when Liao decided to step in to restore youth baseball to having fun and learning sportsmanship.
Under Liao’s efforts, Taiwan’s student baseball development has returned to the right path and laid solid foundation for adult baseball and professional baseball.
吳祥木(奧運銅牌教頭 1942~2012)
吳祥木早年擔任南英商職教練,曾率隊贏得八次全國冠軍。後來獲得棒協理事長嚴孝章賞識,擔任陸光隊總教練,並率領中華隊進軍國際賽,使台灣躋身業餘棒壇世界五強,他與嚴孝章宛如棒球史上的千里馬與伯樂。在1983-85年間吳祥木七度出任中華隊教頭,戰績從未掉出前三名,其中包括兩個冠軍。最膾炙人口的事蹟是兩度擊敗世界冠軍古巴隊,並贏得1984年洛杉磯奧運棒球表演賽銅牌,而他帶過的郭泰源、莊勝雄,後來也在日本職棒大放異彩。
Wu Hsiang-Mu (1942~2012)
Olympic Bronze Medal Coach
Wu Hsiang-Mu was known as the head coach of Nan Ying Vocational High School in the early stage of his career who led the team to national champions for eight times. His reputation made prompted then Chinese Taipei Baseball Association head Yen Hsiao-chang (嚴孝章) to pick him as manager for R.O.C. Army Baseball Team before he took the helm of Taiwan’s national baseball team to shine in international stage, cementing the team’s status as among the top five in the world.
Wu had seven times coached the national team and won two world championship titles from 1983 to 1985.
His most memorable achievements included leading the national teams to twice beat Cuban national teams as well as finishing the third place in 1984 Summer Olympics when baseball was a demonstration sport.
Two of the biggest names in Taiwan baseball history and legendary baeballers in Japanese pro league, Kuo Tai-yuan (郭泰源) and Chuang Sheng-hsiung Chuang (莊勝雄) were his pupils.
徐生明(棒球魔術師 1958~2013)
徐生明在三級棒球時期即已成名,是家喻戶曉的棒球英雄。成棒階段更曾遠赴韓國參加業餘隊,甚至拿到中央大學碩士,經歷相當特殊。然而他更大的成就是在職棒階段,他是中華職棒史上最年輕的總教練、第一位三連霸的教頭(1997~1999,擔任味全龍隊總教練時期),生涯執教戰績715勝,更是史上最多勝的總教練。徐生明是台灣棒球發展過程中三級棒球出身的菁英份子,在他不算長的55歲人生中經歷異常豐富,就像他的綽號「棒球魔術師」般多采多姿。
Hsu Sheng-ming (1958~2013)
Baseball Magician
Hsu Sheng-ming gained national fame since his early days while playing national teams at little league games internationally. He was also known as one of the few Taiwanese players who played at a South Korean amateur team who even received a master degree at Seoul’s Chung-Ang University.
But he was most famous for his achievements in coaching at Taiwan’s professional baseball leagues. He was the youngest team manager in Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) history and the first manager to lead a pro team for three consecutive CPBL championships when did that with Wei-Chuan Dragons from 1997 to 1999.
Hsu held the record for number of wins with 715 victories in the two professional baseball leagues of Taiwan. Known as “Baseball Magician,” Hsu, one of the outstanding baseball talents, had achieved so much in his relatively short but versatile life.
